THE WEEK

Week of May 26, 2025

This week's photos feature our 2025 Staff Appreciation Week at all three of our sites!

During the week of Monday, May 5, 2025 through Friday, May 9, 2025, we honored our hard working staff with "the greatest staff appreciation week on Earth." Monday featured nachos for Cinco de Mayo, Tuesday featured a popcorn bar, Wednesday was hot dog day, Thursday was game day and Friday was bagel and sweet treat day.

We appreciate the hard work and dedication that our staff shows us every day. Thank you for all that you do!

WELCOME

Welcome to P.S. 596X! We are a district 75 New York City Public School serving students on the autism spectrum and other special needs from Pre-K through age 11 in three co-located sites: 11X178, 11X153 and 11X498.

Through this website, you will be able to step into our classrooms and hallways to get an idea of the wide variety of creative programs and practices in which students participate on a daily basis.

Our commitment is to provide the highest quality, state of the art instructional programs to our students, and to offer parents workshops and activities to equip themselves with the skills to best help their child. Through hands-on learning and fun-filled opportunities, our students make tremendous gains in social skills, language, and academics.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

May - June

Same, Same but Different by Jenny Sue Kostecki- Shaw

Same, Same but Different by Jenny Sue Kostecki- Shaw

What is the book of the month?

We have selected books that relate to our ReThink social/emotional curriculum. Bi-monthly, teachers and coaches will collaborate to unpack each book and design lessons, adaptations and resources to support the book’s topics. Our goal is to build on our students’ knowledge and understanding of social emotional concepts through literacy, vocabulary, writing, and discussions!

How can you get involved?

We would really love for the activities we complete at school, to also be reinforced at home.  This includes the targeted vocabulary words, and some fun activities you can do at home or in the community with your child!
