PHOTO OF
THE WEEK
Week of June 24, 2024
This week's photos feature the District 75 Lego League Expo at the New York Hall of Science!
The P596X LEGO League Team practiced the engineering design process as they created their models for the District 75 LEGO Expo at the NY Hall of Science on May 22, 2024. Inspired by P596X’s theatrical presentation of Finding Nemo, Jr., the team designed project elements and incorporated coding skills to represent undersea adventures from the play, featuring a shark with a jaw that opened and closed, a scuba diver with a flashing camera, and fish that traveled through the ocean. The team's name, the “Co-op”erators, pays tribute to their collaborative approach , as well as our school’s beautiful neighborhood. The project's title, “We Swim Together,” is named after one of the songs in Finding Nemo, and reminds us that “cooperation is the secret to our success!”

WELCOME
Welcome to P.S. 596X! We are a district 75 New York City Public School serving students on the autism spectrum and other special needs from Pre-K through age 11 in three co-located sites: 11X178, 11X153 and 11X498.
Through this website, you will be able to step into our classrooms and hallways to get an idea of the wide variety of creative programs and practices in which students participate on a daily basis.
Our commitment is to provide the highest quality, state of the art instructional programs to our students, and to offer parents workshops and activities to equip themselves with the skills to best help their child. Through hands-on learning and fun-filled opportunities, our students make tremendous gains in social skills, language, and academics.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
May - June
After the Fall by Dan Santat
Focus Area: Growth Mindset
What is the book of the month?
We have selected books that relate to our ReThink social/emotional curriculum. Bi-monthly, teachers and coaches will collaborate to unpack each book and design lessons, adaptations and resources to support the book’s topics. Our goal is to build on our students’ knowledge and understanding of social emotional concepts through literacy, vocabulary, writing, and discussions!
How can you get involved?
We would really love for the activities we complete at school, to also be reinforced at home. For starters, tune in to hear Principal John read the May/June Book After the Fall by Dan Santat during a special pajama read aloud! You will find resources and activities for the book in the letter to the right. This includes the targeted vocabulary words, and some fun activities you can do at home or in the community with your child!
