PHOTO OF
THE WEEK
Week of May 12, 2025
This week's photos feature our parent retreat at Camp Ramapo! On Friday, April 25, 2025, P596X families and staff boarded a coach bus and headed off to Camp Ramapo, in Rhinebeck, NY. The parent retreat was all about teambuilding, collaboration, and building relationships and trust. Upon arrival, parents and staff were immediately greeted with smiling faces and warm wishes for a wonderful day. Participants had a few minutes to grab a cup of coffee before they began their ice breaker game as a whole group. Immediately following, participants were divided into smaller groups with 596X staff members assigned to each group. During the morning portion of the day, parents and staff completed team-building activities, where they all had to work together to problem-solve and use strategic thinking and planning. Afterwards, a pizza lunch was served and participants were back outside for the afternoon. During this time, parents and staff completed both low and high-ropes, and roasted marshmallows around a campfire. The day ended the day with a lovely BBQ dinner and shared stories of the day spent together.

Former P596X student Joliah Ceda drew and created our school logo.
WELCOME
Welcome to P.S. 596X! We are a district 75 New York City Public School serving students on the autism spectrum and other special needs from Pre-K through age 11 in three co-located sites: 11X178, 11X153 and 11X498.
Through this website, you will be able to step into our classrooms and hallways to get an idea of the wide variety of creative programs and practices in which students participate on a daily basis.
Our commitment is to provide the highest quality, state of the art instructional programs to our students, and to offer parents workshops and activities to equip themselves with the skills to best help their child. Through hands-on learning and fun-filled opportunities, our students make tremendous gains in social skills, language, and academics.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
May - June
Same, Same but Different by Jenny Sue Kostecki- Shaw

What is the book of the month?
We have selected books that relate to our ReThink social/emotional curriculum. Bi-monthly, teachers and coaches will collaborate to unpack each book and design lessons, adaptations and resources to support the book’s topics. Our goal is to build on our students’ knowledge and understanding of social emotional concepts through literacy, vocabulary, writing, and discussions!
How can you get involved?
We would really love for the activities we complete at school, to also be reinforced at home. This includes the targeted vocabulary words, and some fun activities you can do at home or in the community with your child!
