THE WEEK

Week of April 1, 2024

This week's photos feature our March Magic Show at Harry S. Truman High School. On Thursday, March 21, 2024, our school celebrated the magical progress our students have made by hosting a magic show for the students, parents and staff. The show featured the magician, The Great Ragidy Supreme. Born and raised in New York City, The Great Ragidy Supreme performs at hundreds of special events throughout the year, pushing his act to develop the art of magic into something both unique and modern. The students, parents, and staff enjoyed this entertaining show and look forward to another magic show in the future!

WELCOME

Welcome to P.S. 596X! We are a district 75 New York City Public School serving students on the autism spectrum and other special needs from Pre-K through age 11 in three co-located sites: 11X178, 11X153 and 11X498.

Through this website, you will be able to step into our classrooms and hallways to get an idea of the wide variety of creative programs and practices in which students participate on a daily basis.

Our commitment is to provide the highest quality, state of the art instructional programs to our students, and to offer parents workshops and activities to equip themselves with the skills to best help their child. Through hands-on learning and fun-filled opportunities, our students make tremendous gains in social skills, language, and academics.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

March - April

Every Little Letter by Deborah Underwood

Focus Area: Problem Solving

What is the book of the month?

We have selected books that relate to our ReThink social/emotional curriculum. Bi-monthly, teachers and coaches will collaborate to unpack each book and design lessons, adaptations and resources to support the book’s topics. Our goal is to build on our students’ knowledge and understanding of social emotional concepts through literacy, vocabulary, writing, and discussions!

How can you get involved?

We would really love for the activities we complete at school, to also be reinforced at home.  For starters, tune in to hear Principal John read the March/April Book Every Little Letter by Deborah Underwood during a special pajama read aloud! You will find resources and activities for the book in the letter to the right.  This includes the targeted vocabulary words, and some fun activities you can do at home or in the community with your child!
